The requirement for all pension scheme and trust RAC trustees to receive training is effective since 1 February 2010. New trustees, including those persons who become a director of a body corporate that is a trustee, appointed on or after this date must receive training within six months of the date of their appointment. Those trustees in place prior to 1 February 2010 must receive training within 2 years i.e. by 31 January 2012 and every two years thereafter.
Mercer offers a choice of three Pension Board approved courses
- Two full day courses for trustees of Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution schemes. These courses provide participants with a wealth of information on the roles and responsibilities for trustees of these pension plans and are particularly suitable for newly appointed trustees or those who have not previously received trustee training. The training courses are presented by a senior panel of experts from Mercer who have years of experience dealing with trustee issues. These courses are conducted over a day and are designed to be interactive with workshops, case-studies and question/answer sessions.
- A half-day course for experienced trustees or those who have previously attended a trustee training course. This course covers both Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution schemes. It enables participants to refresh their knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of pension scheme trustees and covers the full range of training recommended by the Pensions Board. It is delivered by two senior Mercer consultants with a wealth of relevant experience.
